STAPLES CENTER’S DAVID BORN NAMED NBA VENUE SECURITY MANAGER OF THE YEAR

Los Angeles, Calif. (October 11, 2017) – The NBA held their First Annual NBA Security Awards in Los Angeles at the NBA Security Conference held in Los Angeles September 18-20, 2017. The NBA Security Awards recognize security professionals who exhibit the NBA’s Calling to compete with intensity, lead with integrity and inspire play. STAPLES Center is proud to announce that David Born, Senior Director of Security for the arena was named the Venue Security Manager of the Year.

LIVE. “I cannot think of another security person in our industry who is more deserving of this honor than David Born, we are incredibly fortunate to have him on our team.”

Born started at STAPLES Center in 2011 as the Director of Security. In his role at the arena he oversees security operations at the home of four professional sports franchises, the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers, the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks. In addition, he helps oversee security operations for the arena 30-35 concerts annually, family shows, special events and other high profile events.

Born is a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) with ASIS International and a Certified Sports Security Professional (CSSP) through the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4).  He is also an active member of the International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM), and current faculty member of the Academy for Venue Safety and Security.  He has been a speaker at numerous security and crowd management conferences. Born is also part of the adjunct faculty at the University of Phoenix Southern California campus.
