STAPLES Center show is largest grossing game in team history

(PHOENIX) - The World Famous Harlem Globetrotters have announced that their annual show at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles on February 15th was the highest grossing single game in the renowned 83-year history of the franchise.

The Globetrotters' STAPLES Center performance is one of many events that have set a new box office record during the team's amazing 2009 "Spinning the Globe" World Tour. The tour is proving to be an "unskippable" event, as through the first two months, the tour has set over 40 new box office marks and featured seven sellouts.

STAPLES Center has become the world's premier sports and entertainment venue, hosting over 250 events and nearly four million guests annually. It is owned and operated by AEG, which houses their corporate offices directly across from the venue at the recently opened L.A. LIVE in downtown Los Angeles.

"We are extremely proud and honored that STAPLES Center now holds this distinction with an entertainment franchise with such a rich and storied history as the Harlem Globetrotters," said Lee Zeidman, Sr. Vice President and General Manager of STAPLES Center, Nokia Theatre and L.A. LIVE.

In addition to STAPLES Center, AEG also manages four other venues in which the Globetrotters have set box office records this year: Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, the Sprint Center in Kansas City, the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., and Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, Calif.

"The Globetrotters provide a great show for the whole family, and their performances have enjoyed success at several AEG-managed venues, and we look forward to many setting more records as we continue through 2009," added Eric Bresler, Vice President of Event Booking and Development for AEG.

Sponsored by Campbell Soup Company, IHOP, Spalding, and America's Best Contacts and Eyeglasses, the Harlem Globetrotters are in their 83rd consecutive season of touring the world. The Globetrotters have played in 120 countries on six continents, entertaining over 128 million fans.
